Caulfeild iDEC
Caulfeild iDEC Elementary launched this whole-school inquiry at a moment when students were asking bigger questions about their responsibility to the environment. Guided by a strong culture of inquiry and digital citizenship, learners and teachers recognised an opportunity to confront an unseen challenge: the waste generated across the school. What began as a simple question quickly became a powerful catalyst for ethical reflection, curiosity, and meaningful community action.

In Their Words
-
“I can see students have transformed in their ability to ask questions and become truly independent learners. Their curiosity has exploded, and they’re far more comfortable delving into the unknown.”
-
“Working with Lee helped me focus less on product and more on the process. I now link ideas more creatively and build learning around students’ interests and understandings.”
-
“Students are using the language of Solution Fluency more naturally now. They’re becoming increasingly confident and comfortable with the inquiry process.”
-
“I’d like to see even more whole-school learning and arts integration. Strengthening our assessment practices and building our Information Fluency skills is the next step.”
-
“We’ll continue using the Fluencies to collaborate on school-wide inquiry and improve the inquiry process. Teachers and students are genuinely excited about learning.”

“This work has transformed how our learners ask questions, analyse information, and take ownership of their environment. Our staff, students, and families worked together in ways we’d always hoped to achieve—and the impact continues to grow.”
